Tomorrow's Ray of Shadow (work in progress)

by Tashi Iwaoka

It is a sketch from the work in progress for a new solo piece which deals with the darkness of being a human and ceaseless prayer for peace.

The new work is inspired by the transformative inner journey of Tatsuo Yamamoto symbolised through the fire he took from Hiroshima after the A-bomb explosion that is now called the fire of peace. Applying it to different scales of events i.e. my personal, international political, global or even universal ones to create a multi-scaled journey for peace through this solo work.

Bio:

Tashi Iwaoka, a Turku based performance artist/mover/Butoh practitioner practiced Butoh based bodywork for over 10 years after his first Butoh experiences in 1997 with Kazuo Ohno and Kim Itoh in Japan. Since 2010 he is deeply influenced by Budo, Japanese martial arts, and working on finding the nucleus of human expression and connection, in relation to the movement skills he has learnt. One of the central driving forces for this is the attempt to fuse his oriental roots and Western perspectives to form a more proper view on ‘being a human’ in this world.
